Apple Officially Retires iPhone X and 2018 MacBook Pro
Apple has officially moved the iPhone X and the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro into its "obsolete" category, a designation reserved for devices that the company stopped distributing more than seven years ago. For long-time fans, the iPhone X holds a special place in history, as its 2017 launch marked the 10th anniversary of the smartphone line by introducing the iconic display notch and replacing the familiar fingerprint scanner with Face ID. As these devices cross this seven-year threshold, Apple will no longer provide hardware repair services, and third-party service providers will no longer be able to source official components to fix them.
While this status shift signals the end of official support, there is a small exception for certain Mac laptops, which may still be eligible for battery-only repairs for up to a decade, depending on part availability. Both the iPhone X and the 2018 MacBook Pro have transitioned from "vintage" status—products last distributed between five and seven years ago—to completely obsolete. This change serves as a firm reminder that both devices have reached the end of their software lifecycles, with the iPhone X capped at iOS 16 and the 2018 MacBook Pro limited to macOS Sequoia.
