UAE Leaders Welcome Hijri New Year with Prayers for Peace and Prosperity
As the Islamic world welcomes the start of the new Hijri year (1448 AH), leaders across the United Arab Emirates have shared heartfelt messages centered on stability and growth. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took to social media to convey his warmest wishes to the citizens of the UAE and the global Muslim community, expressing his hope that the coming year brings progress and continued harmony to the region and the world at large. Joining in the sentiment, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, offered prayers for lasting prosperity and safety, emphasizing an outlook of optimism for the year ahead.
The transition to the new year followed official confirmation from the UAE’s Fatwa Council, which declared Tuesday, June 16, as the first day of Muharram. This announcement was supported by local astronomical data, including a daytime sighting of the crescent moon by the Khatm Astronomical Observatory in Abu Dhabi. To mark the occasion, the government granted a public holiday on Monday, June 15, allowing many residents to enjoy a refreshing long weekend, with some employees and students in Sharjah benefiting from an extended four-day break.
