UAE Pushes for Nation-Wide Arms Embargo in Sudan

Sun, Sep 13, 2026(1h ago)UAE

The United Arab Emirates has officially urged the UN Security Council to broaden its current arms embargo to encompass the entirety of Sudan. While the Security Council recently decided to extend the existing sanctions on the Darfur region for another month, the UAE argues that this window must be used to implement more comprehensive measures. By expanding these restrictions to cover all parties involved in the fighting and the networks facilitating their supply chains, the UAE believes the international community can more effectively choke off the influx of weapons and protect vulnerable civilians caught in the crossfire.

Highlighting the dire humanitarian situation on the ground, the UAE emphasized that military force cannot resolve the ongoing civil war. The mission stressed the urgent need for both warring factions to cease hostilities and allow for unhindered humanitarian aid. Moving forward, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners to foster a civilian-led political transition, noting that the only sustainable path to peace lies in ending the current cycle of violence and removing the influence of extremist groups from Sudan’s political future.
