UAE Sends Condolences Following Deadly School Fires in DR Congo

Sun, Sep 13, 2026(1h ago)UAE

The United Arab Emirates has officially extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo following a devastating fire that struck two primary schools in Bukavu. In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep sympathy for those who lost loved ones in the tragedy and wished a full and swift recovery for the many individuals who sustained injuries during the incident.

The catastrophic event, which occurred on September 11, 2026, reportedly began as a house fire before rapidly engulfing the nearby Ujamaa and Furaha primary schools. According to reports from Reuters, the blaze was incredibly destructive, claiming the lives of at least 29 people and rendering over 300 neighboring homes uninhabitable. The incident has left the local community in eastern DR Congo in a state of mourning as they grapple with the loss of both educational infrastructure and housing.
