New Social Media Age Restriction Announced for UAE Youth

Thu, Jun 18, 2026(2h ago)UAE

The UAE Cabinet has officially introduced a new regulation aimed at protecting minors by setting a minimum age requirement for accessing social media platforms. Under this new policy, children must be at least 15 years old to hold accounts on these digital services. This move reflects the government's proactive approach to safeguarding the digital environment for younger citizens and curbing potential risks associated with unmonitored online activity.

To ensure a smooth transition, the government has granted social media companies a grace period of up to 12 months to fully comply with these standards. During this phase, platforms are expected to coordinate closely with regulatory bodies to implement the necessary technical updates and verification systems. Authorities aim to ensure that businesses are fully prepared to enforce these guidelines while maintaining a safe and secure user experience for the UAE's youth.
