Family Betrayal: Dubai Court Orders Husband and Son to Pay Dh16.1 Million Over Stolen Assets
A Dubai woman has successfully secured a court judgment against her husband and son, who were found guilty of stealing her extensive collection of jewelry, luxury watches, and cash. The bitter family dispute, which unfolded amidst marital tensions, saw the two men unlawfully remove over 100 gold and diamond pieces from the wife's home. Following a criminal conviction that resulted in prison time for both, the Dubai Court of First Instance has now settled a subsequent civil lawsuit, ordering the pair to pay a total of Dh16.1 million.
The final award includes Dh15.1 million to cover the direct value of the stolen assets, alongside an additional Dh1 million meant to compensate the woman for the severe emotional distress and legal hardships she endured. While the victim had initially sought a much larger sum by accounting for lost potential profits due to the rising price of gold, the court clarified that compensation must be limited to established damages rather than hypothetical financial growth. This ruling concludes a lengthy legal battle, holding both men jointly accountable for the financial and moral harm inflicted on the wife.
