Celebrating Unity: 1,600 Gather for International Yoga Day 2026 in Dubai
This year’s International Yoga Day brought thousands of UAE residents together in a widespread display of wellness and communal harmony. A standout event took place at the Dubai Police Officers’ Club, where approximately 1,600 participants—ranging from energetic schoolchildren to seasoned wellness enthusiasts—gathered for a collective session of breathing exercises and mindfulness. Satish Kumar Sivan, the Consul General of India in Dubai, highlighted the significance of the day, noting its alignment with the start of Dakshinayana. He praised the strong bond between the UAE and India, remarking that for many in the diaspora, the UAE feels just as much like home as India itself.
The 2026 observance focused on the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," emphasizing the practice as a vital tool for long-term physical and mental vitality. Major General Expert Mohammed Issa Al Adhab of the Dubai Police lauded the massive turnout, viewing it as a testament to the community's dedication to health and the deep-rooted cultural integration between the two nations. Beyond the Dubai festivities, the spirit of the day extended to the capital, where residents practiced yoga under the iconic dome of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, perfectly blending the discipline of mindfulness with the country's stunning architectural heritage.
