A fascinating piece of literary history is currently the center of attention at this year's Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The renowned rare book dealer, Peter Harrington, has brought one of the most iconic miniature Qurans ever produced to the event. Originally printed in Glasgow during the late 1890s by David Bryce, this tiny volume represents a significant technical achievement from that era. Because it was photolithographed, it allowed for the distribution of incredibly small yet readable texts, which quickly gained massive popularity among Muslim communities across the Indian subcontinent, East Africa, and the Middle East.

Measuring a mere 26 × 19 mm, this historic Quran is still preserved in its original red leather binding with intricate gilt detailing. It is being presented in its authentic metal locket, which originally included a magnifying lens to help readers view the tiny Arabic script. According to Sarah Trevisan, a specialist at Peter Harrington, the book’s production involved creating a full-sized manuscript in Turkey before it was photographed and shrunk for the printing process. Collectors and enthusiasts interested in acquiring this rare artifact can visit the fair, where it is currently listed for £2,750 (approximately Dh13,587) until the event concludes on September 18.
