DP World Maintains Optimism for Strait of Hormuz Recovery

Thu, Sep 17, 2026(2h ago)UAE

Despite ongoing tensions, DP World remains confident that the vital Strait of Hormuz will eventually reopen, serving as a critical artery for the more than 100 million people living in the region. Abdulla Al Hashemi, the company's global head of Economic Zones, noted that while the timing and specific conditions of a reopening remain uncertain, the waterway is too essential to global trade to remain closed indefinitely. In the meantime, the logistics giant is leveraging its strategic geography and diverse operational footprint to navigate these disruptions and ensure that essential goods continue to reach their destinations.

To bypass the current bottlenecks at the Strait, DP World has leaned heavily on its operational agility and multi-modal logistics network. The company has successfully rerouted over 500,000 containers via overland transport from the UAE’s east coast to major urban hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. By utilizing its global asset portfolio and developing new terminals in Fujairah, the firm has managed to sustain strong growth—evidenced by a 13.1 percent revenue increase in the first half of 2026—proving that its transition into a comprehensive logistics, economic zone, and maritime manager is paying off during periods of regional instability.
