Dubai Police Crack Down on Expired Vehicle Registrations

Sun, Nov 1, 2026(1h ago)UAE

In a concerted effort to enhance road safety, Dubai Police reported issuing nearly 49,000 fines to drivers caught operating vehicles with expired registrations within the first ten months of this year. Authorities are emphasizing that these renewals are more than just a bureaucratic formality; they are a vital safety measure. By failing to renew, motorists often bypass essential technical inspections designed to detect dangerous mechanical defects in critical components such as tires, brakes, and steering systems before they lead to catastrophic failures on the road.

Beyond the obvious mechanical risks, the legal and financial repercussions for non-compliance are severe. Drivers caught with expired documentation face a penalty of Dh500, four black points, and the immediate impoundment of their vehicle for seven days. Furthermore, officials warn that driving with lapsed registration often coincides with expired insurance, leaving motorists personally liable for damages and facing significant legal consequences in the event of an accident. Drivers are strongly urged to prioritize their renewals to ensure both their vehicle's roadworthiness and their own financial protection.
