UAE Achieves Zero Road Fatalities on First Day of School

Thu, Sep 17, 2026(1h ago)UAE

The United Arab Emirates successfully marked the start of the new academic year with a significant safety milestone: zero traffic-related fatalities. This achievement follows the widespread success of the Ministry of Interior’s "Accident-Free Day" initiative, which saw over 385,700 participants sign a pledge to prioritize road safety. By encouraging motorists to drive cautiously, especially near school zones, the campaign aimed to protect students and commuters alike during one of the busiest travel days of the year.

To reward this commitment to road safety, participating drivers who adhered to the initiative's guidelines are eligible for a four-point deduction from their traffic records. The Federal Traffic Council, led by Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, noted that this success aligns with a broader downward trend in traffic-related deaths for 2026. Looking ahead, the council remains focused on strengthening emergency response strategies and launching ongoing awareness programs to ensure that safe driving remains a consistent priority for all road users across the nation.
