Abu Dhabi Police recently released a disturbing video compilation showcasing three separate incidents where pedestrians were struck by vehicles. The footage serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for road safety, illustrating scenarios where both drivers and pedestrians failed to follow essential traffic protocols. In one instance, a motorist struck two men in a designated crossing area without slowing down, prompting authorities to emphasize that drivers have a legal and moral obligation to remain vigilant and reduce their speed near pedestrian zones.

Conversely, the police also addressed the dangers of jaywalking, highlighting incidents where individuals risked their lives by crossing in prohibited areas rather than utilizing bridges, tunnels, or marked crosswalks. To deter such hazardous behavior, the UAE enforces strict penalties for those who bypass official crossing points. Under current federal traffic laws, jaywalkers risk a Dh400 fine, which can escalate to imprisonment and fines ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh10,000 if their actions lead to an accident. For crossings on high-speed roads of 80km/h or more, the consequences are even more severe, including a minimum three-month jail sentence and fines starting at Dh10,000.
