Pakistan Conducts Lethal Strikes Against Militants Near Afghan Border

Wed, Jun 10, 2026(1h ago)World

In a significant escalation of regional tensions, the Pakistani government reported on Wednesday that its military conducted targeted airstrikes against suspected insurgent hideouts along the border with Afghanistan. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed via social media that these operations resulted in the deaths of 26 militants affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). According to officials in Islamabad, these "precise and calibrated" strikes were a direct response to a recent surge in terrorist activity within Pakistan, aiming to dismantle safe havens used by militants to stage cross-border attacks.

However, these claims have been met with conflicting reports from Afghan authorities and local residents, who assert that the operation resulted in significant civilian casualties. Officials in the Khost and Paktika provinces reported that the strikes hit residential homes, leading to the deaths of at least 12 people, including several children. While Afghan officials maintain that their territory is not used as a base for militancy, Pakistan continues to defend the operations as necessary security measures against hostile actors. This latest flare-up marks the most violent incident in the region in recent weeks, threatening to destabilize what had been a period of relative calm along the border.
