India Suspends Telegram Amid NEET Exam Fraud Concerns
The Indian Ministry of Education has implemented a temporary block on the Telegram messaging app, effective until June 22. This restrictive measure was enforced under strict IT regulations that allow the government to limit access to digital platforms in the interest of national sovereignty. Officials stated that the move was necessary to prevent organized cheating rackets from exploiting the platform to defraud students preparing for the upcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
This decision follows the government's recent move to cancel the initial NEET undergraduate entrance exam after a significant security breach revealed that test questions had been leaked. With a rescheduled exam set for June 21, authorities are taking aggressive steps to protect the integrity of the testing process. While the National Testing Agency emphasized that the suspension is a targeted response to potential fraud, Telegram has yet to issue an official statement regarding the government's action.
