Early Morning Earthquake Rattles Egypt’s Suez Region

Mon, Aug 3, 2026(45d ago)World

Early Monday morning, residents near the Egyptian city of Suez were jolted by a 5.6-magnitude earthquake. According to the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the tremor occurred just after 3:00 a.m. local time, approximately 38 kilometers north of the city. While international monitors at the German Research Centre for Geosciences recorded the event slightly lower at a 5.4 magnitude, both agencies confirmed the quake struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant property damage resulting from the activity. In a precautionary move, the Egyptian Red Crescent activated its emergency response protocols across the affected governorates. Authorities are continuing to evaluate the impact and have advised local citizens to exercise caution around structures showing signs of stress while staying tuned for further official updates.
