North Korea Launches Mysterious Projectile Into Western Waters
South Korea’s military reported on Tuesday that North Korea has launched an "unidentified projectile" into the Yellow Sea off its western coast. This latest move marks another escalation in regional tensions, occurring just one month after the nuclear-armed nation conducted a series of short-range ballistic missile tests. During those previous drills, Pyongyang stated that the objective was to evaluate the performance and destructive capacity of a cluster bomb warhead.
While military officials in Seoul continue to monitor the situation, the launch coincides with swirling diplomatic rumors. Earlier last week, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency suggested that Chinese President Xi Jinping might be planning a visit to North Korea this week, citing anonymous government insiders. As of now, neither Beijing nor Pyongyang has officially acknowledged or confirmed that such a diplomatic summit is taking place.
