Iran Condemns US Over Deadly Missile Strike in Lamerd
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has leveled severe accusations against the United States, labeling a February 28 missile attack on a sports complex in Lamerd, Fars Province, as a "despicable war crime." According to Iranian officials, the strike resulted in the deaths of 24 civilians, including a toddler and a group of teenage volleyball players, while leaving over 130 others with life-altering injuries. Baghaei asserted that the attack was a calculated maneuver rather than a military error, suggesting the U.S. intentionally targeted a civilian area to test the destructive capabilities of its new Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM).
The spokesperson described the weapon’s terrifying mechanism, noting that the missiles were designed to detonate mid-air and scatter nearly 180,000 high-velocity tungsten pellets across the site. Baghaei characterized this as an intentional demonstration of lethality against innocent citizens and emphasized that Tehran would not let the incident go unaddressed. Demanding that those responsible face prosecution in a competent court of law, he stated that the Iranian people will neither forget nor forgive the loss of life caused by what he termed a clear violation of international humanitarian law.
