Netanyahu Steps Up Military Offensive in Southern Lebanon

Tue, May 26, 2026(45d ago)World

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Tuesday that the military is significantly expanding its ground operations in southern Lebanon. According to the Prime Minister, troops are moving in force to secure areas beyond established lines, with the primary goal of fortifying a security buffer zone designed to protect northern Israeli communities. This escalation comes alongside efforts by the Israeli defense establishment to develop more effective tactical solutions to neutralize the persistent threat of Hezbollah’s explosive drones.

Reports indicate that Israeli forces have pushed past the so-called "Yellow Line," a demarcation zone several kilometers into Lebanese territory, intensifying their presence in multiple abandoned villages. While the Israeli military describes these maneuvers as targeted strikes intended to eliminate direct threats, the situation remains volatile. Hezbollah has responded by launching its own series of drone and artillery attacks against advancing troops, leading to continued cross-border violence that complicates ongoing regional ceasefire negotiations and sustains a rising death toll among both combatants and civilians.
