Horrific Chainsaw Attack on 14-Year-Old Girl Sparks Outcry in India
A 14-year-old student, Mudaga Gopika, is fighting for her life after being subjected to a brutal chainsaw attack inside her classroom in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The assailant, identified as 21-year-old Hemanth, a distant relative of the victim, entered the government school on Saturday and launched a violent assault that left the girl with severe injuries to her face, head, and neck. A classmate, Sake Jyoti, was also injured while heroically attempting to intervene. Following a grueling 20 hours of surgical intervention across two different hospitals, doctors have managed to stabilize Gopika, noting that her survival was remarkably fortunate given the severity of the wounds.
The perpetrator was apprehended by police in a nearby forest on Sunday evening following a massive search operation. Authorities reported that Hemanth attempted to resist arrest with a knife, leading officers to open fire, which resulted in the suspect sustaining critical injuries. As police investigate the motive behind this premeditated act, Gopika’s family has expressed their outrage, labeling the attacker a "psychopath" and demanding the harshest possible legal consequences. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting deep-seated concerns regarding school safety and the swiftness of the judicial process in cases of violence against minors.
