Apple Reportedly Developing Privacy-Focused AI Smart Glasses for 2027

Mon, Jul 27, 2026(45d ago)Business

Apple is reportedly eyeing a 2027 debut for its first pair of AI-powered smart glasses, with a potential preview set for the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that June. According to reports, the tech giant is steering away from the immersive digital displays found in the Vision Pro. Instead, this new hardware is expected to function as a display-free wearable, utilizing integrated microphones, speakers, and cameras to handle tasks like Siri requests, calls, and real-time AI environmental analysis. By mimicking the launch strategy used for the Vision Pro, Apple hopes to give developers ample time to build out a robust software ecosystem before the final consumer release.

Privacy remains at the heart of the design process, as Apple navigates the skepticism often directed at camera-equipped wearables. The company is currently weighing whether to ship a version without cameras entirely or to implement strict limitations, such as using sensors for AI interpretation of the surrounding world while strictly prohibiting photo or video recording. With an emphasis on on-device processing and the exclusion of controversial features like continuous recording or facial recognition, Apple aims to differentiate its offering from current market rivals. As competitors like Samsung push ahead with their own AI eyewear collaborations, all eyes are on Cupertino to see if they can successfully strike a balance between advanced utility and personal privacy.
