Mubadala Invests $1 Billion in Luckin Coffee Expansion

Thu, Sep 10, 2026(3h ago)Business

Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Company, has officially entered a partnership with Centurium Capital to acquire a minority stake in Luckin Coffee, a deal valued at approximately $1 billion. This strategic move highlights the growing demand for specialty coffee within China, where both new and experienced consumers are increasingly frequenting premium coffee chains. Since its inception in 2017, Luckin has disrupted the market by blending a vast physical store network with a high-tech retail model that emphasizes digital convenience and rapid product development.

By mid-2026, the company had scaled its operations to over 36,000 locations worldwide, serving a massive customer base nearing 500 million. Mubadala’s leadership expressed strong confidence in the coffee giant's data-driven approach, noting that Luckin’s ability to adapt quickly to changing consumer tastes makes it a standout asset. As the deal nears completion, the collaboration between Mubadala and Centurium aims to leverage both their financial strength and industry expertise to fuel Luckin’s next chapter of growth, both within the Chinese market and on the global stage.
