DP World Bolsters East African Growth with New Mombasa Industrial Park

Thu, Sep 10, 2026(3h ago)Business

DP World has officially deepened its footprint in East Africa through a strategic collaboration with the Kenyan investment bank GulfCap Africa. This initiative centers on the creation of the Mombasa Industrial Park, a massive 222-hectare Special Economic Zone (SEZ) designed to act as a primary catalyst for foreign direct investment. By launching an initial 40-hectare phase, the project aims to bridge the gap between local manufacturing capabilities and the global supply chain. With over 60 companies already lining up to participate, the development is projected to be a major job creator, potentially generating upwards of 20,000 employment opportunities for the local workforce.

The significance of this park lies in its ability to address the chronic economic challenges within Kenya’s coastal region, where high unemployment has persisted despite the area's rich resources. By providing a structured hub for SMEs and larger firms alike, the SEZ aims to boost local productivity and leverage Kenya's trade agreements with the EU, the UAE, and the broader African Continental Free Trade Area. According to DP World Group Chairman Essa Kazim, this investment is a deliberate step toward building the essential infrastructure required to link Kenyan businesses more effectively to the international stage, ultimately fostering sustainable long-term economic growth for the entire region.
