Pakistan’s August Remittances See Slight Growth Boosted by UAE Inflows
Overseas Pakistanis contributed a total of $3.656 billion in remittances during August, reflecting a steady 0.71 percent increase from the previous month. While Saudi Arabia remains the primary source of these funds, it experienced a 4.43 percent dip, down to $873.45 million. In contrast, the UAE emerged as a key driver of growth, with transfers rising to $749.84 million. This rebound is particularly notable for Dubai, which saw a significant 10.27 percent surge in inflows, helping to offset sharp declines in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
These remittances serve as a vital economic lifeline for Pakistan, offering much-needed support for foreign exchange reserves and offsetting domestic export challenges. While major corridors like the US and other GCC nations saw slight retreats in transfer volumes, other regions stepped up to fill the gap. Specifically, European Union nations reported robust growth, with Greece, Spain, and Italy leading the way, while Australia and South Korea also recorded impressive double-digit gains. This diversification in remittance sources highlights the ongoing efforts of the roughly two million Pakistanis living in the UAE and beyond to support their home country's financial stability.
