YouTube Introduces Supervised Accounts to Enhance Child Safety in the MENA Region
YouTube has officially rolled out supervised accounts for children across the Middle East and North Africa, offering parents greater oversight of their children's digital habits. This initiative arrives as countries like the UAE take proactive steps to limit young children's exposure to social media. These integrated controls allow guardians to tailor the viewing experience by selecting specific content tiers, ranging from basic educational videos and arts and crafts to broader categories like gaming and live streams, while strictly filtering out age-inappropriate material.
Beyond content curation, the new feature provides robust management tools designed to promote healthier screen time. Parents can set daily limits on Shorts, schedule “take a break” or bedtime reminders, and disable features such as autoplay and commenting. Furthermore, the platform has removed personalized ad targeting for these accounts to ensure a safer environment. These supervised kid accounts complement the existing teen account options, which provide a balanced approach by allowing adolescents more freedom while keeping parents informed through activity notifications and shared insights.
