Protecting Your Privacy: Three Things You Should Never Share With AI

Tue, Jul 7, 2026(2h ago)Technology

Artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and Gemini have transformed how we handle daily tasks, from drafting professional emails to summarizing complex documents. However, while these platforms are increasingly powerful, they are not always perfectly secure. Cybersecurity experts consistently advise that users remain cautious about the data they input. Even with the privacy protections offered by major AI developers, it is vital to remember that once information is shared with a chatbot, you no longer have complete control over how that data is stored or accessed.

To stay safe, you should strictly avoid sharing three specific categories of sensitive information. First, never input banking or financial details, such as credit card numbers or account credentials, as these could lead to theft if a security breach occurs. Second, refrain from uploading personal identification documents like passports or driver’s licenses, which can easily facilitate identity fraud. Finally, be extremely cautious with medical records, such as test results or diagnostic reports. If you must use AI to interpret these documents, always redact your name and any other identifiable markers beforehand. A simple rule of thumb remains: if you wouldn't want the information on a public screen, do not share it with an AI.
