Sony Rethinks PC Strategy: Are PlayStation Exclusives Returning to Consoles Only?
Sony appears to be pivoting away from its recent trend of bringing blockbuster single-player games to PC. According to reports following an internal town hall meeting led by SIE CEO Hermen Hulst, the company is shifting its focus back toward console exclusivity to bolster PS5 hardware sales. This marks a significant departure from the strategy that saw hits like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man successfully transition to the PC market over the last few years.
If this policy holds, highly anticipated titles such as Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei may remain trapped on the PlayStation 5 permanently. While the company previously viewed PC ports as a lucrative secondary revenue stream and a tool for brand expansion, it now seems prioritizing the "cinematic" console experience is the primary objective once again. However, this shift reportedly does not apply to multiplayer titles; following the massive cross-platform success of Helldivers 2, Sony seems inclined to keep its live-service games available on both PC and PS5 simultaneously, contrasting sharply with Microsoft's increasingly multiplatform approach.
