Emirati Job Seeker’s Five-Year Search for Opportunity Continues at Industrial Career Fair
For 25-year-old Obaid Al Habsi, attending the Industrialists Career Exhibition in Abu Dhabi was a significant step in a journey that began five years ago. Born with a physical disability and relying on a wheelchair, Al Habsi traveled from Ras Al Khaimah with hopes of finding a role that aligns with his abilities. Despite completing his high school education in 2021 and continuously upskilling through training courses—with a keen interest in artificial intelligence—he has yet to land his first job. Joining thousands of other ambitious young Emiratis at the event, he spent the day connecting with potential employers and submitting applications, remaining hopeful that his persistence will finally pay off with a concrete offer.
The exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, serves as a vital bridge between local talent and the rapidly evolving industrial sector. While many young attendees, like Sultan Al Mesabi, are seeking scholarships to pursue niche fields such as aviation engineering, others like Moza Al Zaabi serve as success stories for the path less traveled. Al Zaabi, who initially expected to work in a medical laboratory, found a fulfilling career in the food manufacturing industry after attending a previous iteration of the fair. Her experience highlights a growing shift in the UAE, where young professionals are increasingly recognizing the value and innovation present in private industrial roles, moving beyond traditional government career expectations to embrace sectors ranging from food safety to advanced technology.
