Dubai’s public transportation network saw a massive surge in popularity during the first half of 2026, recording a total of 348.1 million riders across buses, taxis, marine transport, and the metro. According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), this reflects an average of 1.9 million daily commuters choosing sustainable transit options. The Dubai Metro served as the backbone of this movement, accounting for 39.2% of all trips, followed closely by taxis and public buses. Notably, the interchange stations of BurJuman and Union proved to be the busiest hubs, highlighting the city’s ongoing reliance on rail transit to navigate the bustling urban landscape.

Looking toward the future, Dubai is aggressively expanding its infrastructure to reach a target of 25% public transport usage by 2030. The RTA has ambitious plans in the pipeline, most notably the upcoming Blue and Gold Metro lines, the latter of which will be a massive 42-kilometre underground project connecting seamlessly with existing routes and the Etihad Rail. Beyond rail, the city is prioritizing environmental sustainability by introducing low-emission Euro 6 buses and electric models, with a goal to transition its entire bus fleet to clean energy by 2050. With the arrival of driverless taxis and the anticipation surrounding upcoming air taxi services, Dubai continues to solidify its reputation as a global leader in advanced, efficient urban mobility.
