Etihad Rail is set to revolutionize travel across the UAE by launching a pioneering "Rail to Road" initiative in partnership with Thrifty Car Rental. This exclusive five-year agreement aims to bridge the "last-mile" gap for commuters, tourists, and business travelers who need reliable transportation once they disembark from their train. To facilitate a seamless experience, travelers will soon be able to book rental vehicles directly through the Etihad Rail app or website, with dedicated rental kiosks and assistance desks stationed at all 11 passenger hubs. Thrifty has committed to a Dh10 million investment to support this rollout, which includes an initial fleet of 500 vehicles and the development of advanced, AI-powered booking features.

This strategic move is designed to make the UAE’s transit network more efficient as it prepares for significant expansion. With the passenger network slated to grow through 2026 and 2027, including the addition of major hubs in Dubai, Sharjah, and across the Al Dhafra region, the service ensures that reaching final destinations—even those far from a railway station—is effortless. By integrating rail and road travel into a single digital process, the partnership not only promotes a more sustainable future for transport but also sets the stage for the network to eventually serve an estimated 10 million passengers annually.
