UAE Braces for Unstable Weather as Rain and Hail Sweep Through Sharjah

Mon, Aug 3, 2026(54m ago)UAE

Parts of the UAE experienced a dramatic shift in weather this week, with heavy rainfall and hail hitting several regions, particularly along Al Dhaid Road in Sharjah. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has warned that these unstable conditions are likely to persist for several days, driven by convective cloud formations. Similar weather patterns are currently impacting the wider Gulf region, with Saudi Arabia and Oman also reporting active thunderstorms and potential flooding. In response, officials have issued urgent safety advisories, urging residents to stay cautious, avoid flood-prone areas, and rely solely on official channels for updates rather than circulating rumors.

The unusual summer storms are being fueled by moisture drawn from the Sea of Oman, which, when combined with high temperatures and the region's eastern mountain ranges, creates the perfect environment for these intense afternoon downpours. Despite the cooling effect of the rain, the UAE is not expected to see a significant drop in temperatures, with peak heat levels still expected to hover between 45°C and 50°C in some areas. Authorities remain on high alert, advising motorists to drive carefully during heavy rain and to be mindful of strong winds that can reduce visibility and dislodge loose objects.
