Shurooq Expands Al Faya Retreat and Focuses on Nature-Based Tourism
The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced ambitious plans to scale up its Al Faya Retreat, a boutique destination located near a UNESCO World Heritage site, by increasing its capacity from five to 20 rooms. This development, unveiled by CEO Ahmed Al Qaseer during the Arabian Travel Market, arrives alongside news that other popular nature-focused destinations, such as The Moon Retreat and the eco-luxury Nomad trailers, are preparing to reopen as the regional weather begins to cool. These properties underscore Shurooq’s commitment to an "off-grid" travel experience, which encourages guests to unplug from digital distractions and immerse themselves in the surrounding desert landscape.
The rise in popularity of these retreats aligns with a broader shift in consumer behavior, as Shaikha Al Shamsi, Senior Director of Marketing at Shurooq, reported a notable five percent increase in year-over-year guest numbers. She attributes this growth to a modern preference for authentic, nature-based travel, particularly among Gen Z, who are increasingly opting for outdoor adventures over traditional urban shopping experiences. By emphasizing unique, boutique offerings—such as the 200-year-old heritage village of Najd Al Muqsar—Shurooq is successfully positioning Sharjah as a premier destination for travelers seeking meaningful interactions with both the natural environment and local culture.
