New Pedestrian Bridges to Transform Connectivity on Palm Jumeirah
Construction is officially underway on two new pedestrian bridges at Palm Jumeirah, a collaborative initiative between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding Community Management. The first structure is slated to open near Shoreline in June 2027, followed by a second bridge at Golden Mile in October 2027. Once completed, these bridges will accommodate up to 2,700 pedestrians hourly, significantly enhancing accessibility for roughly 16,000 local residents while providing safer, more efficient alternatives to existing at-grade crossings.
Beyond improving walkability, the project is set to streamline traffic by reducing vehicle wait times at nearby intersections by 50 percent. Both bridges will feature modern amenities, including lifts and accessible facilities tailored to support senior citizens and People of Determination, all while maintaining an aesthetic that matches the iconic island's urban identity. This development is part of a broader strategic agreement aimed at upgrading Dubai's road infrastructure to meet long-term growth, ultimately reinforcing the emirate’s commitment to urban sustainability and the ambitious goal of achieving zero road fatalities.
