UAE Confronts Dual Threat: Physical Conflict and Digital Disinformation

Wed, Sep 16, 2026(55m ago)UAE

During the height of recent regional tensions involving Iran, the UAE encountered a unique and modern crisis: managing the physical reality of aerial threats alongside a relentless wave of AI-driven misinformation. Minister of State Noura Al Kaabi noted during the Arab Media Summit that this was a historic first for the nation, as authorities had to navigate both tangible security risks and a digital landscape saturated with fabrications. She emphasized that because false information travels significantly faster than verified facts—a phenomenon exacerbated by advanced AI tools—maintaining credibility has become a crucial pillar of national security.

Al Kaabi urged the public to adopt a more skeptical approach to online content, questioning sources before sharing unverified claims. Beyond information warfare, she highlighted the vital role of the younger generation in navigating this complex media environment. Rather than dictating their path, she encouraged leaders to learn from the youth’s digital fluency, while also cautioning them to be mindful of their long-term digital footprint. Ultimately, she stressed that in an era of fragmented media platforms, effective communication—and by extension, modern diplomacy—requires a deep understanding of one's audience and a commitment to building bridges through cultural and technological exchange.
