Sharjah's Eco-Resorts See Surge in Visitors as Travelers Seek Authentic Escapes

Wed, Sep 16, 2026(43m ago)UAE

Sharjah’s collection of nature-focused retreats is gaining significant momentum, with guest numbers climbing by five percent this past August compared to the same period last year. According to Shaikha Al Shamsi, Senior Director of Marketing at the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), this growth stems from a shifting traveler preference. Modern tourists, including the Gen Z demographic, are increasingly turning away from traditional mall-based shopping holidays in favor of genuine, immersive encounters with the natural environment, solidifying Sharjah’s reputation as a premier destination for ecotourism.

Rather than simply selling overnight accommodations, Shurooq has centered its strategy on creating holistic experiences that celebrate local identity and heritage. A prime example is Najd Al Muqsar, a centuries-old village transformed into an intimate retreat where guests can engage directly with the land and the surrounding community. This commitment to unique, boutique stays will extend further next month as the cooler weather prompts the reopening of popular off-grid sites like the Nomad mountain trailers in Kalba and the desert-based Moon Retreat, both of which emphasize sustainable luxury and a peaceful disconnection from the digital world.
