Dubai Municipality has officially rolled out updated design and planning standards aimed at significantly improving the quality of life for the city’s workforce. Under these new regulations, worker accommodations must now provide a minimum sleeping area of 3.7 square metres for each individual. Furthermore, the guidelines mandate a gross floor area of 8.9 to 10.3 square metres per person to ensure adequate support services, while also requiring the integration of recreational and outdoor zones ranging from 0.75 to 1.5 square metres per resident. These updates are part of a broader government strategy to ensure housing facilities meet rigorous safety, health, and technical benchmarks.

To support these changes, the municipality conducted an extensive survey of 1,417 buildings and introduced a smart classification system that ranks facilities as Platinum, Gold, or Silver based on their compliance. Beyond structural improvements, authorities are prioritizing the development of essential community infrastructure, including better pedestrian pathways, parking solutions, and increased access to retail and sports facilities. By aligning these initiatives with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the city is fostering a more inclusive and well-regulated environment, ensuring that workers have access to safe, dignified, and well-serviced living spaces.
