Dubai’s 'National Month' Returns with Iconic Flag Garden Celebrations
As Dubai gears up for its annual "National Month," the city’s creative arm, Brand Dubai, has officially announced a series of festivities running from November 3 to December 2. This month-long tribute highlights the UAE’s rich history, leadership, and national achievements through a collaborative effort between the government and the private sector. A major centerpiece of these celebrations is the return of the iconic Flag Garden, an expansive beachfront art installation located at the Umm Suqeim shore. Known for its breathtaking displays made from thousands of individual flags, the garden has been a staple of the city's patriotic spirit since 2014, often creating massive, intricate portraits that can be admired from a distance.
The festivities officially kick off on November 3 with UAE Flag Day, a tradition established in 2013 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to honor the anniversary of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s accession. While Flag Day emphasizes unity, it serves as the perfect bridge to the grand National Day celebrations on December 2, which commemorate the country’s federation. Beyond the Flag Garden, the city will host an array of engaging initiatives, including the UAE Parade and a short-film contest dubbed "Stories of Our Determination." This film competition invites local creatives to showcase the resilience and unity defining UAE society, ensuring that the spirit of the nation is captured and celebrated through various artistic lenses throughout the month.
