UAE Flag Day: A Reminder to Ensure Your National Flag is in Perfect Condition

Mon, Nov 2, 2026(58m ago)UAE

As the UAE gears up to celebrate Flag Day on November 3, residents and institutions are being urged to inspect their flags before displaying them. Authorities, including the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, have emphasized that any flag showing signs of fading, tears, or weather-related wear should be replaced immediately. According to the official UAE Flag and Official Portraits Guidelines, it is essential to maintain the dignity of the national symbol; even minor damage is sufficient reason to swap out an old flag for a fresh one to ensure it remains a proud representation of the nation.

Beyond just replacing worn fabric, the government guidelines provide specific instructions on how to handle the flag respectfully. It should be kept clean, ironed, and properly secured so it never touches the ground. If you find your old flag is damaged, it should be lowered carefully and can be recycled by separating its components to remove its flag shape, while burning is strongly discouraged for environmental reasons. While there are no fines for natural fading caused by the elements, citizens are reminded that any intentional disrespect or public damage to the flag carries severe legal penalties, reflecting the deep reverence the nation holds for its primary emblem.
