Sharjah's Major Development Projects in Kalba Reach Key Milestones
The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has announced that the redevelopment of Kalba Beach is now 75 percent complete, with the entire 700-metre waterfront project slated for completion by December 2026. This ambitious project is designed to be both modern and eco-conscious, utilizing sustainable materials like rammed earth and solar power to protect the surrounding mangrove forests and marine life. Once finished, the destination will offer a wide array of amenities, including various dining options, dedicated jogging and cycling tracks, sports courts, and facilities tailored for people of determination, all while adhering to rigorous Blue Flag environmental standards.
In addition to the beach development, work is progressing on the Kalba Rock Art Centre, which is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2027. Situated at the historic Khatm Al Melaha archaeological site, the centre will allow visitors to explore thousands of years of history, ranging from the Neolithic era to the 19th century, through interactive exhibitions and virtual reality experiences. Shurooq’s CEO, Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader vision to bridge Kalba’s natural beauty with its rich cultural heritage. By integrating these new attractions with existing sites like the Kingfisher Retreat, the emirate aims to bolster the local economy and provide a comprehensive, long-term destination for tourists and residents alike.
