UAE Launches 47th Planting Week with Nationwide Green Goals
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has officially launched the 47th Planting Week, running until November 8 under the theme "Together, Let’s Plant the UAE." This nationwide campaign honors the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan by mobilizing families, schools, and institutions to expand the country’s green footprint. The initiative is a cornerstone of the nation’s 2050 net-zero strategy, focusing on combating desertification and enhancing biodiversity. Major targets include Abu Dhabi’s ambitious plan to plant 75 million mangroves, alongside Dubai’s goal of adding over 3.5 million trees and expanding its urban green spaces significantly.
Beyond the numbers, this week serves as a bridge for intergenerational learning, encouraging children and families to engage in hands-on conservation. Workshops across all seven emirates will teach participants how to nurture native species like the ghaf, sidr, and samar, ensuring that the trees planted are well-suited to the local climate. By emphasizing water efficiency and sustainable gardening, the initiative aims to transform environmental stewardship into a lasting cultural habit. The government is calling on all sectors of society to participate, viewing these collective efforts not just as a way to cool urban environments, but as a vital step toward a more sustainable and connected future for every resident.
