Indian Fugitive Extradited from UAE Following Sexual Assault Charges
A fugitive accused of a grave sexual assault in India has been successfully brought back to the country following his extradition from the UAE. The accused, identified as Sajeer Palli Mooppam, was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued at the request of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following a petition by the Delhi Police. After his arrest by Emirati authorities, an escort team from the Delhi Police traveled to the UAE to secure his custody, ultimately returning him to New Delhi on November 4 to face justice.
The criminal case stems from a disturbing incident in which Mooppam and an associate allegedly drugged a 20-year-old woman to incapacitate her. According to investigators, the victim was taken to a hotel under false pretenses where she was sexually assaulted. The charges against the accused are supported by solid forensic and medical evidence, and a formal chargesheet has already been submitted to the court. The successful extradition highlights the effectiveness of international law enforcement cooperation, as the Red Notice served as a critical tool in tracking down and securing the arrest of a suspect attempting to evade the Indian legal system.
