AI-Powered Traffic Signals to Ease Dubai Congestion by 10%
Dubai is set to revolutionize its road network as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) prepares to integrate artificial intelligence into its traffic signal system. By linking all traffic lights to a central management hub in Al Barsha by early next year, the city aims to leverage real-time data from cameras and sensors to predict bottlenecks before they form. This predictive approach will allow the system to dynamically adjust signal timings, with officials anticipating at least a 10 percent reduction in overall traffic congestion.
Beyond traffic flow, the RTA is rolling out an ambitious AI strategy that spans 41 different operational areas, ranging from public transport planning to internal administrative functions like procurement and HR. A major focus is shifting customer services toward an AI-assistant model, which will streamline tasks such as paying fines or renewing vehicle registrations. By moving more than half of its service operations to this ecosystem, the RTA expects to boost efficiency and create Dh300 million in annual added value, while simultaneously using AI to enhance the monitoring and maintenance of the city’s massive Dh150 billion infrastructure portfolio.
