Sharjah Book Fair Celebrates Global Literary Talent at 45th Edition
The 45th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) recently concluded with a grand celebration of literary excellence, highlighting the event’s growing influence on the global stage. Among the top honors, international authors Marcia Hutchinson and Nirmala Lakshman were recognized for their outstanding contributions to literature; Hutchinson took home the Best International Fiction Book award for "The Mercy Step," while Lakshman was celebrated for her non-fiction work, "The Tamils: A Portrait of a Community." These awards were presented by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, at a ceremony that brought together a prestigious assembly of writers, publishers, and cultural figures at the Expo Centre Sharjah.
This year’s edition saw a record-breaking 3,018 submissions, a testament to the fair's expanding reach and its pivotal role in the global publishing ecosystem. Beyond individual accolades, the event showcased significant growth in Emirati literature and provided a platform for emerging publishing entrepreneurs through the Launch Track program. By honoring both established international voices and local talents—such as Maryam Al Zarouni and Dr. Shihab Ghanem—Sharjah continues to cement its reputation as a vital cultural hub, dedicated to nurturing intellectual growth and fostering sustainable connections between writers and readers worldwide.
