Rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Gala Set for July Following Security Scare
The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) has officially announced that its annual gala, which was abruptly cut short in April due to a security breach, will take place on July 24. The original event was evacuated after shots were fired at a checkpoint outside the venue, leading to the arrest of 31-year-old Cole Allen, who is currently facing charges including the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. While the President was safely escorted away during the chaos, the incident forced a suspension of the festivities.
In a message to association members, WHCA president Weijia Jiang stated that the decision to reschedule serves as a defiant message against violence, particularly during the nation’s 250th anniversary year. The upcoming gathering is expected to be smaller and more private than the traditional affair, with organizers promising significantly bolstered security protocols and revised entry procedures. While it remains unclear if President Trump will be in attendance, the association is determined to move forward with the tradition, emphasizing that they will not permit an act of terror to overshadow their commitment to free expression.
