Kuwait Takes Hardline Stance Against Speeding with Threat of Deportation

Wed, Jun 3, 2026(45d ago)World

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior has officially launched a strict zero-tolerance campaign to tackle reckless driving and enhance road safety across the country. Authorities have made it clear that those caught breaking speed limits will face significant legal consequences, with penalties scaling in severity based on how far the driver exceeds the legal threshold. While Kuwaiti citizens face vehicle impoundment and potential jail time for high-speed offenses, the consequences for expatriates are particularly stringent, including the threat of immediate deportation.

The new enforcement measures are categorized by specific speed tiers, starting at 150 km/h, escalating at 170 km/h, and reaching a critical level at 200 km/h. At these higher brackets, expats face mandatory deportation alongside vehicle impoundment and fines, while citizens may be subject to detention and legal proceedings. These regulations serve as a stern reminder for all motorists to respect the country’s diverse speed limits, which range from 120 km/h on expressways down to 45 km/h in residential zones. By implementing these rigorous policies, the government aims to drastically reduce traffic fatalities and ensure safer roads for all residents.
