UAE Leads Global Relief Efforts for Philippines Earthquake Survivors
The United Arab Emirates has become the first international body to reach the municipality of Glan in Sarangani province, providing essential support following the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao. Led by UAE Ambassador Mohamed Obaid Salem Al Qatam Alzaabi, the relief teams coordinated with local officials to distribute immediate supplies, including hundreds of food parcels and clean drinking water to families struggling in the aftermath of the disaster. This mission is part of a larger commitment to deliver over 20,000 food parcels and 20,000 gallons of water to communities hardest hit by the tremors, which have tragically claimed 78 lives so far.
Local leaders have expressed deep gratitude for the swift response, which goes beyond mere material support by offering a sense of stability during a time of immense trauma. General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao commended the UAE’s initiative, highlighting how these efforts provide vital comfort and hope to residents, particularly children, who have been displaced or suffered losses. For the UAE, this operation underscores a long-standing dedication to international solidarity, ensuring that those affected by natural disasters receive the humanitarian aid and emotional security they need to begin the recovery process.
