Quezon City Sees Sharp Rise in COVID-19 Cases but Officials Urge Calm
Quezon City has reported a significant 265 percent spike in COVID-19 infections over the past three weeks, with confirmed cases jumping from 23 on June 10 to 84 by the start of July. Health data indicates that these infections are primarily concentrated in Districts 1 and 4, with a notable prevalence among women and children aged 14 and under. Despite these figures, the city's Epidemiology and Surveillance Division emphasized that they are maintaining strict monitoring to prevent any potential clustering of the virus.
Mayor Joy Belmonte and national health authorities have moved to soothe public anxiety, noting that the current infection rates remain a very small fraction of the total population. Officials characterized the cases as isolated and mild, stressing that there is currently no cause for widespread alarm. While the localized uptick is being watched closely, the Department of Health underscored that nationwide COVID-19 numbers remain significantly lower compared to the same period last year. Health experts are now encouraging residents to prioritize hygiene and seek early medical advice for respiratory symptoms, particularly as the rainy season brings an increased risk of other seasonal illnesses.
