Kuwait Ends Visa and Absence Permit Extensions Effective September 1
Starting September 1, 2026, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior will officially reinstate original regulations for all entry visas and absence permits. This shift marks the conclusion of special measures that were introduced earlier this year to support residents and visitors impacted by regional instability, including drone and missile strikes and the subsequent closure of airspace. During this temporary period, the government had provided automatic extensions for visitors and allowed residents stuck abroad to extend their stay outside the country without incurring fees or losing their legal status.
While the return to standard procedures is set for September, the ministry has clarified that some flexibility remains for those already affected. Residents who departed Kuwait on or before August 31, 2026, will still be granted the previously established grace periods for their absence permits. Going forward, the government emphasized that the residency permit certificate generated via the Sahel app serves as the definitive legal reference for expiry dates. Authorities are urging all residents to carefully monitor these timelines and ensure they comply with the reinstated requirements upon their return to the country.
