Yemen's Houthi Rebels Launch Drone Strikes on Saudi Infrastructure
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels announced on Thursday that they successfully executed two separate drone strikes against Saudi Arabian territory, specifically targeting an airport and an oil facility operated by Aramco in the southern Najran region. Yahya Saree, the group's military spokesperson, claimed the operations were precise and hit sensitive sites near the Yemeni border. To date, Saudi officials have remained silent regarding the incidents and have not provided any official confirmation or assessment of the damage caused by these incursions.
This escalation comes amid rising regional tensions and warnings from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, who recently cautioned that Saudi Arabia would struggle to contain the intensifying Houthi offensive. The situation is further complicated by reports that the rebels are attempting to gain strategic control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical maritime shipping route. Following the collapse of a 2022 ceasefire, the Houthis have significantly ramped up their aggression, announcing a maritime blockade and intensifying a campaign of attacks against Saudi facilities, signaling a dangerous new chapter in the country's decade-long civil conflict.
