India Eases Diplomatic Barriers at Pakistan High Commission
In a move signaling a subtle de-escalation, authorities in New Delhi have removed the queue barriers previously stationed outside the Pakistan High Commission. This decision follows a reciprocal gesture from Islamabad, which recently took down security poles situated outside the Indian High Commission in its capital. These adjustments to the physical security infrastructure come against the backdrop of heightened tensions between the two neighbors, which have remained precarious following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 and the subsequent military escalations that defined the following month.
Meanwhile, diplomatic friction has extended beyond bilateral issues, drawing in the United States following a high-profile visit to Srinagar by US Ambassador Sergio Gor. During his trip, the Ambassador described Jammu and Kashmir as an "important part of India," a statement that prompted an immediate and sharp response from Pakistan. Islamabad summoned the American Charge d'Affaires to formally protest the comments, labeling them factually incorrect. Despite the diplomatic backlash, Ambassador Gor maintained a positive outlook on the region, noting that the US may reconsider its existing travel warnings to encourage American tourism to the area.
