Thai Sailors Seek Legal Compensation Following Deadly Attack in Strait of Hormuz
A Thai labour court has officially accepted a legal petition filed by three sailors who are demanding compensation following a lethal attack on their cargo ship earlier this year. During the transit of the Strait of Hormuz in March, the vessel Mayuree Naree was struck by two projectiles, an incident that tragically claimed three lives and left the survivors grappling with severe trauma. The claimants are now seeking at least 1 million baht each from entities associated with the vesselâs owner, Precious Shipping, arguing that the company knowingly placed them in a high-risk war zone.
Legal representatives for the sailors claim that their clients are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which has effectively ended their maritime careers. While the company maintains that it has met its legal obligations by providing initial compensation and wages, the plaintiffs contend that these payments fall far short of international standards. Former crew members have spoken out about their ongoing struggles, noting that they are currently reliant on medication to cope with the lasting psychological scars of the attack, while the company has indicated it will not be offering any further financial redress.
